What is a “drum circle”?
A drum circle is a celebration of a life, community and music-making in the moment. Participants, sitting in a circle while playing drums and hand percussion, join in creating a group rhythm.
Drum circles empower its participants, inspire self-confidence and an appreciation of being included and respected. This activity provides participants a chance to explore their inner sense of creativity, to reconnect, to be playful and support each other through non-spoken means.
It’s an experience of being “in the moment”, of spontaneous self expression as well as connecting through interracial and intercultural means, through the voice of the drums.
Group drumming is a powerful music-making experience that is used as therapeutic intervention for achieving health-oriented, non-musical goals.
The circle is moderated by a facilitator who guides the group in rhythm and rhythm-based activities.
The community drum circle is an opportunity to enjoy a group activity with friends and neighbours. It is a family-friendly event and open to all ages. No previous musical or drumming experience is necessary. It is all about FUN!
